Week Eleven: Meditations on Sound & Light

INTRODUCTION

This is an expansion of the meditations of Week 10. It is best to do those meditations before doing the ones for this week.

As in Week 10, these meditations require you to make a sound and to use that sound for inner awakening. As before, use your imagination to create the sound inwardly if you are in surroundings where you cannot comfortably voice the sound.

You need not be overly concerned with proper pronunciation. It is more important to listen to whatever sound you produce. It is also important to place the vibration of the sound in the area of the body suggested. It does not matter whether you experience this physically in the body or on a more subtle energetic level. The emphasis must be on the experience itself rather than on any expectation or desire to “do it right.”

The same cautions apply as in Week 10. Do not do these exercises while driving. The weekend practice is best done at home, in quiet. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, stop and breathe a little more deeply. When you begin again, shorten the time you hold each sound.

Remember that the goal of this series is to experience moments of transformative energy, and it may not be necessary to do the full number of repetitions. Pushing to complete the suggested number of repetitions can make it more difficult to focus on sensing the vibration in the body. Try to feel the delicate balance between the sensitivity of the moment and the desire to complete the suggested number of repetitions.
